The art of barbering is back in vogue! The traditional high street barber shop is quickly being transformed into a destination for men from all walks of life wanting a unique barbering experience.
With the demand for barbering at TAFE NSW we have introduced Australia’s first barbering apprenticeship course along with an exciting range of flexible course options for current barbers and hairdressers wanting to specialize.
How has training for barbers changed?
Previously, barbers could only study hairdressing units that were not relevant or specific to the barbershop, which resulted in many not completing formal qualifications. Our courses are developed to support the training of barbering professionals and a future of a highly skilled barbering workforce. The great news is that current barbers can now be recognised with a qualification that they deserve.
Barbering apprenticeship course at TAFE NSW
The Certificate III in barbering apprenticeship will give you a formal qualification as a professional barber. The course requires you to be employed as barbering apprentice and attend TAFE one day per week. You will learn the necessary skills required to work as a barber.
Flexible study options!
We understand that fitting training in with the needs of the barbershop business is important so delivery can be customised including flexible attendance and assessment options.
Those wishing to complete their training faster may opt to study full-time, combining study with part-time work in a barbershop.
Shave time off your qualification
Through a recognition process, skilled barbers can now gain a Certificate III in Barbering (SHB30516) with customised gap training, if required.
